Environmental Policy

As a small company MASS have a relatively small carbon footprint but we do look at ways to change our behaviours to reduce this further.

Most recently, we have significantly cut down on our travel.

MASS have clients all over the UK, from Wales to East Anglia, Surrey to Scotland. Historically this would mean visiting clients by motorway and plane. As a company we were averaging 2-4 significant trips every month.

The reduction in site travel has been accelerated by the Covid 19 Pandemic, but also catalysed by technology through SaaS solutions and cloud-based technology which we started before 2020.

From an internal perspective we have now focused ‘office-based work’ around those that live locally, allowing those whose travel distance is higher to work from home more regularly. Where possible, employees often walk or cycle to work. We meet as a whole team in the office once per month for a focussed day, and we meet online at the beginning and end of every to ensure everyone keeps in touch.

From an employment perspective this change in work practices has also enabled us to look ‘outside of the box’ in terms of recruitment strategy and we now look more towards contracting out specific bodies of work rather than employing in. This is a progressive change that effects the business operations across the board, but one offshoot is the reduction in requirement for office-based activities, which means less travel.

In a technology sense MASS works within the Green Buildings arena and sells solutions to help other Organisations track and manage their estate carbon footprint.

We will continue to focus our efforts on maintaining our reduction, and we look forward to a

greener future.

In pursuance of this Policy, the Company will take action to:

  • provide a suitable environment in which employees can perform our work activities;
  • consult with our employees on matters affecting their productivity, health and safety;
  •  provide centralised data, accessible from anywhere for employees;
  •  ensure all employees are competent to do their tasks and to give them adequate training;
  • review and revise this policy as necessary at regular intervals.
