What’s New in ARCHIBUS 24.1: Smart Client and Smart Client Extensions

Welcome to the third blog of the year from me, Callum Doyle. I am back covering further aspects relating to how the system has changed or upgraded its features with the new version of ARCHIBUS. In this particular blog, I intend to cover how the Smart Client and Smart Client Extension have changed.

 

AutoCAD & Revit

 

We all know that when a new year rolls around, there are a number of inevitabilities: as we all know, rail costs will go up by about 3% …..and AutoDesk will release a new version of AutoCAD and Revit! This means that of course, any application that works with AutoDesk products needs to update its connection so that you can utilise the renewed software.

 

To that end, the first thing I should mention here is that with version 24.1 of ARCHIBUS the connection string is now updated to work with AutoCAD 2019, AutoDesk Architecture 2019, Revit       Architecture 2019 and Revit Mechanical 2019.

 

Smart Client

 

Now that the administrative aspects of this blog are over and done with, let’s go over the interesting change for the Smart Client and its extensions.

 

As always happens when technology comes into place and facilitates an ease of the process from A to Z, so systems get formed around it, so that the set-up can be standardised. This comes with both pros and cons, but ultimately it allows for many disparate groups to be able to come together on large

projects (like creating and managing a building), and gives you the ability to work to a set of known standards immediately.

 

Why am I talking about this? Because this is in brief what BIM (Building Information Management) is. And in version 24.1 of ARCHIBUS a BIM Model Explorer has now been introduced. BIM being a

current hot topic, we will be sure to return to discussing BIM in future blogs.
